CSS Rolls out New Minimum Requirements for Disease Control of Semen Produced for AI

July 8, 2021

On 1 July 2021, a new version of the CSS Minimum Requirements went into effect.  The Minimum Requirements for Disease Control document is the cornerstone of the Certified Semen Services (CSS) program.  The requirements center around the prevention of disease transmission in frozen bovine semen.  To remain CSS Certified, CSS participants are required to adhere to minimum testing standards and semen processing requirements outlined in the Minimum Requirements.

This newest version of the CSS Minimum Requirements replaces the 2014 version and clarifies requirements, updates testing requirements and adds optional new tests.  The CSS Board of Directors, consisting of veterinarians and industry experts, approved the 2021 version of the Minimum Requirements in February of 2021.  To facilitate a smooth transition a rollout plan was executed, including educational seminars for participants and updates to supporting documentation.

A Spanish version of the new CSS Minimum Requirements is also available.
